Stock Market Updates for Today (13th June '11)

After a weak start and a subsequent fall to lower levels, the market staged a fairly smart recovery in late morning trade, and then, after a brief flourish, turned choppy and ended the session on a flat note today as investors trade cautiously, amid uncertainty about the near term trend.

Weakness in Asian markets on the back of lingering worries about slowing global economy triggered some hectic selling in the morning session. However, with investors picking up stocks at lower levels, buoyed by modest gains posted by European markets and U.S. index futures, the market gained in a bit of strength as the session progressed.

The Sensex, which opened modestly lower at 18,242.25 and tumbled to 18,120.76 after an hour or so, ended the day with a loss of 2.51 points or 0.01% at 18,266.13, nearly 50 points off the day's high. The Nifty  index of the National Stock Exchange closed at 5482.80, netting a loss of 3 points or 0.05%. The NSE barometer touched a low of 5436.95 during the day.
